Sumati Govinda is a gifted Raja Yoga teacher, Meditation instructor and Spiritual Life Coach. She is a senior disciple of H.H. Sri Swami Satchidananda the founder of Satchidananda Ashram ~ Yogaville, Virginia and Integral Yoga International. As an Integral Yoga (Interfaith) Minister who grew up in Satchidananda Ashram ~ Yogaville she believes that a peaceful, respectful co-existence of all religions, belief systems, cultures, and races is possible in her lifetime.
Born with an intense spiritual desire to realize her true nature, she began meditating with her father before the age of two. Around the age 5 she had the honor of studying Raja Yoga with a dear family friend, Nischala Joy Devi, who ignited her passion for the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, as translated by H.H. Sri Swami Satchidananda. In 1979, by the grace of her guru, she received mantra initiation thus beginning her earnest daily spiritual practice.
She and her three children were blessed to attend the school in Yogaville, where they were taught to love and feel compassion for all beings. By maintaining a healthy balance of worldly and spiritual life. Sumati obtained a bachelors degree in Nursing (Magna Cum Laude with honors) from UNC-W and has served in the medical profession for over 20 years.
As a Raja Yoga teacher, meditation instructor, spiritual life coach and lively public speaker she loves bringing the joy of Yoga into all aspects of her life. As a humanitarian, Sumati serves on several boards to help promote wellness and peace. She serves her local community by responding to physical, mental, emotional or spiritual emergencies, as needed. She embraces each moment fully and enjoys sharing her wisdom to help others live their lives to the fullest. Sumati and her family are founding members and current residents of Yogaville.
